i just downloaded the free sample and i am so excited!!! i will purchase it from amazon next week when i will go back to Cyprus (i am in China now). It's really a great work. The accompanied audio, the way you put the original text, the selected characters (not all) for translation and the way you present the pinyin so it will attract the eye is exactly what i was looking for ages...AMAZING

Hi Pani,

Thanks for your comment. The audio files are free at Capturing Chinese with the purchase of one of our books. The audio files add up to hours and hours of listening time. Why don't you download the sample and see what you think? You can sign up for the sample on our homepage: http://capturingchinese.com/

Keep up your Chinese! 加油！

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your comment. I can't say my advice applies perfectly, but here is the approach that I would take. I would let your boss know how you feel. Your talent in language might not be on his radar. I tried this approach at my old job to no avail, but you should give it a shot.

Then, I would suggest to keep up your Chinese. Don't forget it! I started writing these books because I wanted to keep my Chinese up to par. I find that reading literature is a good way to build you vocabulary, remember the characters, and is possible to do on your own.

When the time comes, you will have a solid work experience plus an ability with Chinese.

Every situation is different, but that is my general advice.

You might want to look into jobs in Hong Kong or Singapore as well. They do good finance, speak English and Chinese, and I hear both are nice places to live. The world is more and more global. It's getting easier and easier to move to a foreign country.

Cheers,

Kevin

Thank you for your story because I can relate to it very much. I spent two years learning Chinese in Taiwan, and now I am in the United States working as a financial advisor, and I'm not utilizing my chinese at all. I am coming to a crossroad in my life where I need to figure out what I can do to utilize my Chinese, because I do have a passion for the language and culture, and would hate to see it go to waste. Any advice to help me advance my finance career in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
